Privacy Policy

Gurudev AI is a seva project built by Nimesh Jain. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar or the Art of Living Foundation. This policy covers the website askgurudevanything.com and the Gurudev AI apps for iOS and Android.
What we collect
- Phone number and email address — every account has a verified phone number and a verified email. You can sign in with your phone number, Google or Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead.
- Name — optional. We use it only to greet you.
- Your questions and our answers — saved to your account so you can see your history.
- Your practice — if you use the practice features: each session you log (kriya or meditation, when, and for how long), your streak and totals, and the program you are on, such as the 40 days of kriya or the first 7 days.
- How you felt — only if you pick one of the mood words after a session or to find a meditation. It is one word from a short list; there is nowhere to type. The word you pick after a session is saved with that session.
- Your path — your answer to whether you have learned Sudarshan Kriya, and roughly when, so the app shows what fits you. If you are an Art of Living teacher, your teacher code.
- Reminder time — if you set a daily reminder. The reminder itself is scheduled on your phone.
- Teacher pages — if you are a teacher and make a page: your name, your centre, the day and time of your follow-up, and your Zoom link. This page is public: anyone who has its link can see it. If you join a teacher through their link, we record which teacher it was; the teacher sees how many people joined, not who they are.
- Feedback and support messages you send us.
- Usage information — which features are used, and an approximate location (city or country) derived from your IP address, so we can understand how the app is used and improve it.
- Crash and performance reports — so we can find and fix problems.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts or photos. Speech-to-text in the apps runs on your device; we receive only the text. If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can send them. On Android, the app reads the Play Store's install referrer once, only to see whether a teacher's page brought you to the app.
How we use it
- To sign you in and keep your account secure.
- To answer your questions and keep your history.
- To keep your practice log, streaks and milestones, show you what fits your path, and remind you at the time you chose.
- To connect a teacher's page with the people who join through it.
- To email you about your account, and occasionally about new features. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
- To keep people safe: if a message suggests someone may be at risk, it is flagged privately to the project owner so they can respond.
- To understand and improve the app.
We never sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with advertisers.
AI processing
To answer a question, its text is sent to our AI provider (currently OpenAI), which helps search Gurudev's teachings and writes the answer. Your name, email and phone number are not sent with it. The apps ask for your permission before your first question.
Your practice log, the mood words you pick, your path and your reminder time are never sent to the AI provider. They are used only to show your practice back to you and to understand how these features are used.
Services we use
These providers process data on our behalf, only as needed to run the app:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud — sign-in, data storage, notifications, hosting, and the meditation recordings the app plays.
- Apple and Google — Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In, if you use them.
- Our AI provider, currently OpenAI — answering questions (question text only). If we change provider, this page will name the new one.
- Pinecone — searching the teachings (it holds the teachings, not your data).
- PostHog — usage analytics.
- Sentry — crash and error reports.
- Amazon SES and Resend — sending email.
- Slack — the private safety alerts described above.
- Vercel — hosting the website.
Each has its own privacy policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and history while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time: in the app, open Profile and tap Delete account, or use the delete account page on the website.
Deletion removes your account, profile, verified phone and email, your chat history, your practice log, mood words, path and reminder time, and any teacher page or link to a teacher. We complete it within 7–14 business days and email you when it is done. Feedback, support messages and safety records are kept with anything that identifies you removed. If you unsubscribed from our emails, that choice is kept so we never email you again.
Children
Gurudev AI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
